GUIDANCE Welcome to the Counselor’s Corner! Maryellen Kimbrough, School Counselor WARNING!!!!!!! Counseling In Progress…. Remarkable changes may occur! It is the mission of this department to provide a comprehensive school counseling program for every student at Roxboro Community School, by focusing on the areas of: Academic Development, Social and Personal Development, and Career Development. In addition, school counselors provide services to students, parents, school staff and the community in the following areas: School Guidance Curriculum: This curriculum consists of structured lessons designed to help students achieve the desired competencies, and to provide all students with the knowledge and skills appropriate for their development. There have been guidance lessons already this year addressing character development, study skills, and test taking strategies. Upcoming lessons will include topics such as bullying, positive interaction, and building self-esteem. Individual Student Planning: This planning involves the coordination of ongoing systematic activities designed to help students establish personal goals and develop future plans. Interest Inventories and other activities are used to guide students to begin thinking of their choices for post-secondary plans and future occupations. Responsive Services: These services are preventative and/or interventive activities that meet the students’ immediate and future needs. These needs can be necessitated by events and conditions in students’ lives and may require any of the following: individual or group counseling, consultation with parents, teachers and other educators, and referrals to other school support services or community resources. School Counselors Dare…… To care, to challenge, to inspire, to motivate, to help students change their lives!
