HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Healthful Living
At
Roxboro Community School

1.  Health and Physical Education classes are taught by experienced and certified instructors - with 63 years of experience between the two instructors!  (And they're still YOUNG!)

2.  Classes are instructed on an every-other-day schedule:  Health one day; Physical Education the next.

3.  Grading is based on an average of the two subject areas each six-weeks.  This includes- but is not limited to - the following:

  • "dressing out" for P.E. - WEARING TENNIS SHOES and comfortable clothing (we do not have facilities for changing or showering)

  • willingly participating in class activities - both Health & P.E.

  • completing assignments - homework, journal, projects...some written and some oral (We try to emphasize proper composition and writing skills as much as possible to prepare the students for writing expectations in the future.)

  • participating in Person County "FAN" club activities each month (Fitness And Nutrition)

  • regular quizzes and unit tests

  • NOT CHEWING GUM during any class time

  • exhibiting respect for classmates and instructor

4.  Health instruction is based on the NCDPI Healthful Living curriculum.  We use a state approved textbook and supplemental materials.

5.  Physical Education instruction is based on the NCDPI curriculum whenever possible.  Due to limited space and lack of indoor and outdoor facilities, at this time MANY modifications must be made.  (example:  Instead of regular full-court basketball, we play "Scooter Basketball.")   We DO place a great emphasis on fitness and wellness activities.  We have two areas measured for walking/jogging/running a mile and participate in this as often as possible.  We have an abundance of equipment than can be used daily.

6.  Class size ranges from 17 to 25.  This year, grades 7 - 10 have been combined in each class.  NEXT YEAR, CLASSES WILL BE SEPARATED BY GRADE LEVEL.
