Standard of Dress Policy

Appropriate school dress, personal appearance and cleanliness have a desirable impact on student behavior and performance. Appropriate dress is that which is suitable and comfortable for a work atmosphere. All students are to be dressed neatly.

Our students will be ambassadors from our school as they are involved in community projects. Their dress should reflect high standards of personal and community respect. We ask for the help and cooperation of the parents in abiding by the following dress standards:

Dress Standards

1.Men's shirts  are to be collared shirts, polo/golf style, or turtlenecks. Shirts are to be buttoned and tucked in.  No sleeveless shirts are allowed.

2.Pants, shorts,  to the knee and Capri pants are not to be made of denim material.

3.Most shoes are acceptable as long as they are regular street-wear with no more than 1 ½ inch heels. Appropriate athletic shoes are required for Physical Education class.  No bedroom slippers or pajamas are to be worn.

4.Roxboro Community School logo t-shirts and sweatshirts are acceptable attire. A collared shirt tucked in should be worn under the sweatshirt.  All shirts to be tucked in.

5.No hats or headgear of any type are to be worn inside the building.  Coats are not to be worn in class.

Dress Standard Guidelines

1.Crop tops, short tops, spaghetti strap tops, and tight blouses are not acceptable. When student’s arms are raised overhead, the shirttail must cover both the front and rear of the pant waistband.  No see through materials may be worn.

2.No sagging pants, leather pants or skirts, overalls, tight knit pants (even under a skirt) or sweatpants are acceptable.  A belt should be worn when equipped with belt loops.  Sweatpants will only be allowed during Physical Education when approved by the teacher. Pants should not drag on the floors.

3.Shorts, skirt and dress hems should be no shorter than 2"(inches) above the knees, leggings are NOT to be worn underneath skirts.

4.Appropriate jeans will be acceptable on designated days such as “dress down” Friday, school spirit days, etc as announced.  Dress down days are not assumed to be every Friday.  Jean Days will be announced by the principal.

5.Clothing that promotes gang affiliation, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, the use of controlled substances, depicts violence, is of a sexual or disruptive nature is prohibited at all times.

6.Girl Scout, Boy Scout, 4-H, etc. uniforms may be worn on meeting days.

7.Cardigans, crew neck, vest and v-neck sweaters are acceptable over shirts.

8.College t-shirts and sweatshirts can be worn on specified days as announced by the principal.

9.All women's shirts and blouses must be long enough to cover the midriff when the student raises her hand to answer in class.  any display of cleavage is unacceptable.  Tops cannot be see-through, backless, sideless, worn off the shoulder or sleeveless.  All tops must have long or short sleeves. 


If a student’s dress is such that it constitutes a threat to health or safety, the Principal or Guidance Counselor may require the student and the student’s parents or guardians to take appropriate action to remedy the
situation.
