With missing school tomorrow, RCS will now have extended day school starting Monday, February 16 through Tuesday, March 17.

Due to road conditions, there is no school for students tomorrow, February 2. It will be an optional workday for staff. With school being called off tomorrow, the May 19 early release day will now be a full day.
If we miss additional days past Monday, RCS will extend the school day until 3:35 pm as needed to cover required school hours beginning February 16. Extending the days until spring break will gain us 3 instructional days. We will extend the school days only if needed. The RCS community will be updated on the duration of the extended school days as soon as possible so plans can be made for student pickup.

Due to hazardous road conditions, there will be no school tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27. It will be an optional teacher workday.
Because of this, our teacher workday on February 16 will now be a regular school day.
Stay safe and stay warm!
Due to the winter storm, tomorrow, January 26 will be a remote learning day.
In anticipation of possible power outages, students should complete assignments as they are able and as power is restored. Teachers will work with students who experience power loss on due date timelines.
Additionally, PCC is closed tomorrow, so students taking PCC classes should check moodle for assignments.
Stay safe and warm!
Monday, January 26 would be a remote learning day.
Tuesday, January 27, there would be no school. Because of this, our teacher workday on February 16 will become a regular school day.
Wednesday-Friday, January 28-30, there would be no school for students and these days would be optional teacher workdays for staff.
These are all hypothetical until we see how severe the weather and road conditions are as the week progresses. We will send out communication regarding Monday on Sunday and will continue to send out communication each day with updates on closures, but we wanted to keep everyone in loop on what our possible plans are.
Thank you!
All other profits will go help fund students competing in this year's International Thespian Society Theater Competition at ECU in March.
Tickets will be sold up until the RCS Variety Show on February 6th-7th.
For more information about purchasing tickets, ask any ITS member or you can email Layla Fitzgerald (fitzgeraldlb@roxborocommunityschool.org) and/or Lily Dale (dalelc@roxborocommunityschool.org).

In order to receive this renewal, RCS provided financially sound audits, had student academic outcomes that are comparable to those of local LEAs (Local Education Agencies) and is in compliance with state law, federal law, and the school’s bylaws.
“Thank you to all of RCS's Board of Directors, parents, students, personnel and the community,” Managing Executive Director, Darkarai Bryant said. “This 10 year renewal is a testament to the hard work of the whole school community present and past. We continue to build upon what our founding board members began with RCS's opening in 2006, and it's a personal privilege to be a part of the Bulldog Family. This ‘work’ is not a destination. It's a journey, but this milestone is definitely one to celebrate.”

As part of his application, Davis named high school math teacher, Amanda Carter as an educator who has made a large impact on his education.
Because of that, Mrs. Carter was named a 2026 Morehead-Cain Impact Educator.
We are so proud of both of them and grateful for the meaningful relationships that are fostered between our students and staff here at RCS!

We are excited to introduce Dr. Lydia Olagunju, our new high school Earth & Environmental and Biology teacher!
Dr. Olagunju is a highly accomplished scientist and educator with a Ph.D. in Bioscience. She spent years teaching and mentoring students, specializing in biology, chemistry, and nutritional biochemistry. Outside of the classroom, she has led research in functional foods and metabolic health, contributing to projects ranging from pharmaceutical potentials in mushrooms to eco-friendly livestock solutions.
Dr. Olagunju believes that science is a tool for curiosity and problem-solving, and she is committed to helping our students build the critical thinking skills needed to succeed in STEM courses.
"Teaching science is not just about memorizing facts," says Dr. Olagunju. "It is about learning how to ask meaningful questions about the world around us."
We are thrilled to have Dr. Olagunju join the RCS family!
